New Musical Director

Following the decision of its Music Director to stand down after more than 50 years, The Maia  Singers is seeking to fill this post in time for the start of its autumn season, commencing September 2025.

The Maia Singers is a choir with an excellent local reputation that has been in existence over 100 years. It is an amateur SATB choir with a membership of approximately 50 active members. We currently produce at least three concerts a year which we perform in local churches.

We have experience of singing with local orchestras, with soloists and we have enjoyed trips around the UK (St Pauls and St Martin’s in the Fields) and abroad (The Menin Gate, Belgium).

We enjoy a very wide repertoire and have an extensive library with music from 16th century to modern choral works. Examples of our recent concert performances are available on our web site. We are always keen to experience new music.

We are looking for a Music Director with

  • excellent choir training and musical skills
  • a wide knowledge of choral repertoire
  • excellent interpersonal skills
  • a sense of humour, energy and enthusiasm
  • the ability to work with the choir’s committee to programme imaginative and attractive concerts
  • organisational and practical skills
  • ideally some experience of conducting large events and orchestral direction

The new Director will have the full support of the Committee in developing an interesting and challenging programme and in furthering their own professional skills.

Remuneration will be negotiable.

The Maia Singers meet on Monday evenings from 19:30 to 21:30 at Compass Point, 96 Nangreave Road, Heaviley, Stockport, SK2 6DQ. It follows the school term timetable.
